Yes, You Can Be Even Better

A slight change of tack today. A shorter blog, but a really important one.
How often do you ask yourself “How can I achieve even better outcomes for my clients?”
There are two choices we can make:
To Have A Growth / Open Mindset
To Have A Fixed / Closed Mindset
Which choice have you made?
Choice [1] Always achieves better client outcomes than choice [2].
Choice [1] Always results in us being better at what we do than choice [2].
Choice [1] can set us so far apart from our competition such that they pale into insignificance.
And by "competition" I am meaning ALL competition, whoever they are, and whatever they do!
ACCEPTING that we CAN be even better at what we do requires us to have a growth / open mindset.
And the act of BECOMING even better at what we do requires us to have a growth / open mindset.
A key enabler to becoming better at what we do involves questioning what we have been taught, what we think, what we do and how we do it.
If we never question what we have been taught, how we think, what we do and how we do it, we cannot grow.
And here I am meaning questioning EVERYTHING, from the modalities we use, what we have been taught these modalities do, the way we have been taught to use them, how we assess clients, how we solve problems for clients ... EVERYTHING.
In my particular specialism, musculoskeletal problem-solving, do you think I got to where I am today (creating the SMARTEST musculoskeletal problem-solvers in the World) by having a fixed / closed mindset?
Absolutely not.
Because I had a personal experience that led me to believe that our industry needed a fundamental change, I made the CHOICE to question everything I was doing and everything I had been taught and I set out on a mission to find people who taught, thought and worked differently.
And I learned from them.
And then asked them loads of questions.
Not everyone and every thing I found was better, but this process made me question how I was thinking and what I was doing.
I can honestly say that I learned something new from everybody I approached.
So, what are the signs that we have a fixed / closed mindset?
(there are loads, but here are a few I come across regularly)
Never questioning what we have been taught,
Sticking with the same educators, only ever learning their perspective on things,
Always seeking to validate what we are doing,
Being defensive about what we do,
An Inbuilt conviction that what we do is the best / only way,
Saying to clients "I can fix that for you" (we cannot 'fix' anything!!),
Saying "I'm Fine Thanks" when offered an opportunity to grow personally or professionally,
... I will add to this list as they emerge ...
So, YES, YOU CAN BE EVEN BETTER,
The starting point is constantly questioning everything you've been TAUGHT, everything you THINK and everything you DO.
Not from a destructive perspective,
And not certainly from a standpoint of trying to validate how you currently think and work,
But from a truly open standpoint of, "I wonder if there might be a better way?"
So, returning to my question at the top of this blog, how often do you ask yourself “How can I achieve even better outcomes for my clients?”
How often do you ask yourself, "Is what I have been taught, the way I think and what I am doing delivering the best possible outcomes for my clients?"
